Internal medicine

Learn about internal medicine enquiries, document preparation and follow-up coordination. The treating doctor determines the appropriate tests and care.

From everyday symptoms to ongoing health management

Internal medicine is a starting point for many patients entering Japan's healthcare system. We review symptoms, history, current medicines and recent results before coordinating suitable institutions across Japan.

  • Common symptoms such as colds, fever, cough and fatigue
  • Digestive symptoms, sleep and general health concerns
  • Follow-up tests and care after abnormal screening results
  • Comprehensive assessment of multiple chronic conditions

What to prepare before your visit

If available, prepare recent test reports, imaging findings, a medicine list and allergy history. You may enquire without a referral; your coordinator and institution will confirm any additional requirements.

Online medical care in Japan

Patients with an established diagnosis, stable condition, adequate records and access to in-person examinations when needed may be considered for online follow-up and health management. A licensed Japanese doctor decides whether online assessment or prescribing is appropriate and when in-person care is needed. For emergencies such as chest pain, breathing difficulty, altered consciousness or persistent high fever, contact local emergency or medical services immediately.

This is general information, not a diagnosis or individual treatment advice. Following assessment, the doctor explains indications, contraindications, risks, side effects, alternatives and costs.
